磐 Pan 安 An

A Brief History of 磐安

Located in Jinhua, Zhejiang Province, 磐安 was named from “安于磐石” (as still as huge rocks) during the war in 1939, had been lost in history during the Great Leap Forward in 1958, and came back during the Reform and Opening in 1983.

Surrounded by mountains, 磐安 was hard to reach. The geography makes 磐安 disadvantaged for economic development, and also makes it the place for national nature reserves, well-known shiitake and tea, and cultural heritages.

My parents came to 磐安 among the first generations to build the town in the 1980s. I was born here and grew up here.
